CORPUS Kids Academy – Kidney Lab
You drink, move around, and go to the bathroom. Meanwhile, all sorts of things are happening inside your body. But where?
On September 27, the CORPUS Kids Academy will focus on the kidneys. You’ll test hypotheses, place organs in their correct positions, compare labels, follow the path of waste products, and find a suitable kidney donor. Discover and get hands-on. From 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., free, no registration required. For children ages 8 through 12.
Program
What do your kidneys do?
True or false? You’ll vote on ten statements about your kidneys. Then, during a demonstration, you’ll see how a kidney filter works. Which substances pass through it, and what gets left behind?
Where are your kidneys?
Kidneys, stomach, intestines, and bladder. Cut, move, and paste until the organs are in the right places. Lift one up and see what’s behind it. Can you put everything in the right place?
The Salt Challenge
Two products, one choice. Which one has more salt? Five rounds, each with a new dilemma. Can you pick the right answer?
The "Journey" of Waste Products
Blood, kidney filters, ureters, and the bladder. Play dominoes and arrange the route of waste products in the correct order. Step by step, their path through your body is revealed.
A Day with Kidney Disease
Take some energy coins, watch the video, and make daily choices about things like drinking and exercise. Your balance changes with every choice. What does your day look like?
Match the Donor
A patient is looking for a donor kidney. But which donor is the best match for the recipient? Compare blood types, tissue matches, and ages. Nine levels, each with a new combination.
